Patna, (Bihar Times): The Gaya police on Tuesday recovered nearly 4,000 gelatin sticks weighing six quintals from a jeep near Sherghatty sub-division of the district.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sherghaty, Balram Chaudhary, two persons who had supplied the explosives were among three persons arrested. Police intercepted the jeep near Sherghati during routine checking of vehicles in view of the day-long Bihar bandh and seized 3,930 gelatin sticks.
He said two alleged explosive suppliers Mohammed Zahid of Chatarbar in Koderma district of adjoining Jharkhand, Sawood Khan alias Bholu of Hamzapur of Gaya district and driver Shahzad of Hindpiri in Ranchi, also in Jharkhand, have been arrested.
Asked whether those arrested had naxalite links, the DSP said the trio were being interrogated to ascertain their antecedents and network. He said the high-intensity gelatin was capable of causing major destruction and the possibility that the consignment was meant for naxalites could not be completely ruled out.
