Patna, (Bihar Times): The speaker of the Bihar assembly has opposed the defence ministry’s move to shift the Army Service Core from Gaya to Karnataka.
The speaker of Bihar assembly, Uday Narayan Chaudhary, on Saturday said in New Delhi that Bihar, which shares international border with Nepal and Bangladesh, needed more such units.
According to the Bihar government Press release during a meeting with defence minister A K Antony here, Chaudhary said that after the bifurcation of Bihar, the state was left with only two military centres at Gaya and Danapur in Patna. This is negligible from the point of view of Maoist-infested Bihar. He said there was no justification behind shifting the Gaya centre to Karnataka, where seven such units already exist. He said the Gaya centre offered employment to youth from 19 neighbouring districts.
It needs to be mentioned that the issue of shifting of the ASC North was once even raised during the NDA rule in the Centre.
The defence ministry recently announce its plan to set up Officers Training Academy in Gaya.
However, it must be noted that Bihar’s border does not meet with Bangaldesh as stated by the speaker.
