Patna, Feb 11 : In a move to make the Government Railway Police (GRP) more people-friendly and accessible, all its officials have been asked to wear their name badges in Hindi and Urdu as against English, a top official said here Wednesday.
Deputy Inspector General (Rail) Arvind Pandey has issued instructions to all GRP personnel to wear badges with their names inscribed in Hindi and Urdu.
"It (name tags in English) is neither good nor proper. They should wear badges with their names inscribed in Hindi or Urdu because these two languages are official as well as people's languages," Pandey told IANS over telephone Wednesday.
Pandey, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer known for his singing of spiritual songs and launching innovative schemes, said he was shocked to learn that GRP officials were wearing badges with their names inscribed in English.
"Names should be written in Hindi or Urdu, English is not our official language here," Pandey said.
"All these measures are to make rail police people-friendly, after all people can easily read Hindi or Urdu, not English," he said.
"I have asked the sergeant majors of the railway police and the station house officers to ensure within a fortnight that all their subordinates are wearing badges with names written in Hindi and Urdu," he added.
