Patna, Feb 13 : Three suspected Maoist rebels, including the head of a village panchayat, have been arrested in connection with the killing of 10 policemen in an attack by guerrillas on Feb 9 in Bihar's Nawada district, police said Friday.
Mahudhar panchayat head Ram Bhuj Ravidas and two others were arrested Thursday night, Nawada Superintendent of Police Nishant Tiwari told IANS over telephone.
Police have also detained over half a dozen people for questioning and are in search of Ajit Yadav, the head of Lalpur panchayat, who was one of the four accused in the case.
Yadav had invited Rameshwar Ram, officer in charge of Kauakaul police station, to chair a function to mark the birth anniversary of saint Ravidas in Mahuliatand village.
Over 100 armed Maoists ambushed the 18-member police party led by Ram as it reached the village. Ten policemen were killed in the attack during which the Maoists looted 11 guns, including two SLRs.
The police Wednesday lodged first information reports (FIRs) against four people and 150 unknown Maoists in Kauakaul police station.
