Patna, Feb 20 : A 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang raped at gun point in a Bihar village by a kin of a former minister and his accomplice and then set on fire, told police officials that she just wants to die to get rid of the pain and the shame.
"I want to die, please leave me to die. I don't have any desire to live after what has happened to me," she told police officials and media persons at Jiyalal Kalawati Memorial Hospital in Sitamarhi town where she is battling for life with 60 percent burn injuries.
The incident took place at Chtahi village in Sitamarhi district about 200 km from here.
According to family sources, the girl said that two men - Murari Rai and Sanjay Mahto - raped her and threatened her not to tell anybody. When the girl told her family about the incident, the accused poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
Then the accused took her to a private clinic for treatment under their close surveillance.
The case came out in the open Thursday after a close relative of the victim approached the media four days after she was raped and set on fire.
The police said that both men are absconding.
The police officials recorded the victim's statement in the hospital and assured her family that action would be taken against the accused, family sources said.
