Patna, (Bihar Times): Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen said that the proposed Nalanda International University would regain the old glory and would soon emerge as a centre of academic excellence.
Talking to the newsmen in Bodh Gaya on Thursday, where he chaired the Mentor Group meeting of the NIU he said that for 600 years the Nalanda University remained the centre of attraction for academics all over the world.
Sen said that the new University would not only specialize in Buddhist Studies but would subjects like Management, Mathematics etc would also be included in the subject.
The Mentor Group visited the proposed site at Nalanda on Friday. The Group is likely to send its final recommendations to the Centre for the enactment of Bill in this regard. Singapore Foreign Minister, George Yeo, Lord Meghnad Desai of London School of Economics and the deputy chairman of the Bihar Planning Board, N K Singh, also accompanied him to Nalanda.
On the global economic slowdown he said in a year’s time things may in a better shape. However, he added that stupid actions may prolong the crisis.
