Patna, (Bihar Times): The executive director of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) Arun Kumar on Monday appealed to household energy users and those in industry and transport sectors, offices and transmission and distribution of electricity to conserve energy.
Addressing a seminar on Energy Conservation, organized jointly by the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) and PCRA, he said PCRA scientists are available to advise on the tools and measures for energy conservation in different sectors. He said that fuel and energy conservation mean saving energy up to 20 per cent which can be used for additional development activities in the country.
PCRA’s additional director P Chattoraj, while speaking on the occasion, said India needs energy for its growing economy. Also, energy conservation has become important as a huge foreign currency reserve of the country is being spent on purchasing crude oil. He cited the example of Central Coalfields Ltd where 10 per cent energy conservation led to savings worth Rs 40 crore.

Srivastava said energy conservation would reduce the gap between energy demand and supply. Energy auditing in different sectors and efficient use of energy in electricity transmission and distribution are the need of the hour.
Srivastava suggested that vehicle users can save energy by switching off the ignition at traffic signals. He also pleaded for use of right pressure cooker in every kitchen. Saving 2 per cent in the use of petroleum product would save Rs 7,000 crore for the nation, he added.
