Patna, (Bihar Times): The Budget session of the Bihar Legislature began amid protest by the Opposition members here on Tuesday.
As the Governor R L Bhatia stood up to read his prepared speech, highlighting the achievements of the state government during the year 2008-09, senior RJD member Ramchadra Purbey and CPI(ML)’s Arun Singh started reading parallel ‘public report cards’ amid thunderous applause from the Opposition members.
However, the Governor read out his entire speech in 45 minutes with members of the treasury benches, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi, listening.
Later Speaker Udai Narayan Chaudhury announced the formation of several House Committees and paid obituary references to eminent personalities who passed away during the interim period.
They include former President R Venkataram, former MP Madan Prasad Jaisawal and seven former state MLAs, including Mr Prabhudayal Singh,Mr Jairam Oraon, Mr Habib Ahmed Biradi and Ms Vina Rani.
The members observed one minute’s silence to pay respect to the departed souls before the House was adjourned for the day.
Once again the session will be very brief. It would continue till March 4 and the budget for the next financial year would be presented on Wednesday by the deputy chief minister-cum-finance minister Sushil Kumar Modi
