Bihar Opposition moves resolution against Speaker

Patna, (Bihar Times): In a surprise move the opposition MLAs in the Bihar assembly on Thursday moved a resolution against Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhary seeking his removal. This was preceded by uproarious scenes for the second day over an alleged remark by a BJP MLA, Ramadhar Singh, against RJD’s deputy leader in in the House Shakeel Ahmed Khan. The BJP MLA on Wednesday called him Pakistani.

An LJP MLA, who heard the remark first raised the issue to be followed by others. Then the chief minister, Nitish Kumar and the lone CPM legislator, Ramdev Verma, got locked in a heated exchange of words.

On Thursday the pre-lunch sitting was drowned in the din leading to two adjournments. However, the House plunged into turmoil moments after it assembled in the post-lunch session.

“We have moved a resolution for your removal under Article 179 of the Constitution and Rule 110 of Business and Procedure of the State Assembly,” Khan said. As the opposition members stormed the well shouting slogans against the chair accusing him of partisan conduct, the speaker stood in his seat waving at the agitated members to calm down saying: “nothing will go on record.”

Soon the entire opposition staged a walk out raising anti-government and anti-speaker slogans.
