Patna, (Bihar Times): Succumbing to the pressure of the non-gazetted employees the Bihar government on Monday announced that recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission would be implemented from January 1, 2006 in principle and the actual benefit would be given from April, 2007.
According to the deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, the government has also decided to give grade pay of Rs 4,200 in the scale of Rs 5000-8000 and Rs 5,500-9,000 as recommended by the pay panel.
It must be recalled that the government on December 23 while announcing the implementation of Sixth Pay Commission, had given the grade pay of Rs 3,200 and Rs 3,600 for these two scales. Now this is being increased to Rs 4,200 for both scales bringing it to the Centre's pay grade.
While implementing the Fifth pay panel’s report the then state government had done so in principle with effect from January 1, 1996 and the actual economic benefit was given from April, 1997. The same pattern was being followed here, he said.
This decision will put an additional burden of Rs 525 crore on the exchequer of the state towards arrear payment and Rs 424 crore annual burden towards regular salary payment and Rs 110 crore due to enhancement in grade payModi said.
Modi also appealed to the employees not to go on strike as the government was sensitive to their demands. They should keep in mind the economic condition of the state and the devastation caused by river Kosi.
It needs to be mentioned that the employees have threatened to take out a torchlight procession in Patna on January 6 and have threatened to launch a state-wide stir from January 7.
