Patna, (Bihar Times): In a temporary relief to Abdul Bari Siddiqui-led Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), the Board of Revenue recently stayed the State Registration department’s decision to cancel the cricket body’s registration.
The decision gave a boost to the BCA to organize tournaments under its aegis. “We are the associate members of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and no one can stop us from organizing these tournaments,” BCA chairman Abdul Bari Siddiqui told newsmen on Tuesday. Siddiqui is the state president of Lalu Yadav-led the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Siddiqui said that as the IG’s order has been stayed by the Board of Revenue, the BCA would be actively organising tournaments from next week. He provided detailed schedules for Under-22, 19 and 16, Women’s Senior Championship, Women’s Junior Championship, Hayman Trophy from January to April. Coaching camps would also be organized for these players at different venues.
However, he admitted that the BCA could not function as effectively as an affiliated body because of the legal battle which the BCA has been fighting for the last 6-7 years.
Siddiqui charged that the move to cancel the BCA registration was politically motivated and his association was not even given sufficient time to explain its side. He claimed that the BCA held discussions with former cricketers like Saba Karim and Amikar Dayal before deciding the schedule of tournaments which it would organize in the next few months.
The BCA has requested the Indian Railways to allow it to use the Jagjiwan Ram Stadium for organizing training sessions and tournaments for three years and a final decision by the railways was expected very soon.
