Maoists attack Jamui court, set free 11 criminals

Patna, (Bihar Times): In a daring attack Maoists attacked the Jamui court on Friday evening and managed to escape with 11 criminals. Three of those who escaped were Maoists while the other eight who manged to escape were criminals, some of them hard-core ones.

According to the additional director general of police, Neelmani, some Maoists attacked the Jail Van in the court premises when some under-trial prisoners were boarding it. They took away some of the criminals. He said that combing operation is on to nab those involved in the attack and the town has been cordoned off.

However, reports from Jamui said that the Maoists took full use of lax security in carrying the criminals. They poured powdered chilly in the eyes of the constables and fled with the under-trial prisoners. The three Maoists, who gave a slip to the police are, Sunil Baitha, Paresh Hembram and Vivek Yadav. The criminals, who escaped are Gulabi Yadav and Munna Shah.

Though the attack took place at 5:10 pm, just at the time of sunset, none of the criminals could be arrested even two hours later. Jamui is surrounded by jungles and they all managed to flee in the dark. This is not the first attack on the police in Jamui in the last couple of years.

A year back the Maoists made a daring attack on the GRP at the busy Jhajha railway station killing six of their personnel. They decamped with the arms and ammunition.
