Patna, Jan 17 :A 16-year-old girl has committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance after she was harassed and taunted by some boys in a Bihar village, police said Saturday.Shocked at the harassment, Sonam Kumari, an intermediate student, ended her life Friday, the police said. Kumari was from Samastipur village in Begusarai district, about 125 km from here.
Deputy superintendent of police in Begusarai Mohammed Qasim said the girl was disturbed and depressed after five boys of the village harassed her Jan 13 when she was returning home from a market.
Kumari’s father Surendra Singh said soon after his daughter informed him about the incident, he had sought justice from a village council but it failed to take any action against the accused.
Singh alleged that the parents of the accused were spreading rumours that the deceased had a “loose character”. He has lodged a complaint against the five accused.
