Patna, Jan 19 : A newly-built road in the Bihar capital, named after slain Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, was inaugurated Monday by ruling Janata Dal (United) MP M. Ejaz Ali.
‘We named a road after Hemant Karkare as a respect to his soul and his courage in exposing the involvement of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and other Hindu outfits in terrorism before he was killed in Mumbai. His death has to be probed to find who killed him and how,’ Ali said.
A large number of local people attended the inaugural function of the road, in Muslim-populated Phulwarisharif area of the capital.
Ali has been repeatedly demanding a probe into Karkare’s killing, alleging a conspiracy behind it. He was among the few who supported Minority Affairs Minister A.R. Antulay, who had questioned the circumstances surrounding the killing of Karkare when terrorists struck in Mumbai last year.
The MP also repeated his demand that his party snap ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
However, the JD(U)’s national leadership as well Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had distanced themselves from Ali’s remarks.
