Maoist set afire 11 cement–laden trucks in Bihar

(Bihar Times) The activists of banned CPI (Maoist) set afire 11  cement-laden trucks in Rohtas district in the early hours of Thursday during their bandh to protest price rise and alleged police torture of their comrades.
“An unspecified number of heavily armed guerrillas of the organisation intercepted the trucks between Tumba and Ranjeetganj between 0100 hrs and 0200 hrs and set them ablaze” said Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Neelmani .
He said the Maoist organization has called for a 24-hour shut-down in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa.
The trucks were carrying cement bags from Kalyanpur cement factory, Sub-divisional police officer, Dehri, Mithilesh Kumar, said, adding the drivers and cleaners were dragged out before the vehicles were torched.
He said the local administration had cautioned the Banjari-based cement factory representatives not to transport their goods during night in view of the bandh. However, they ignored the warning.
Raids were on to apprehend the naxalites, he said.
