IOC to introduce 5 kg LPG cylinder from Sep in Patna

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will be introducing 5 kg commercial Indane LPG cylinders in Patna from September 1 and in rest of the state by the end of the current year.

Talking to newsmen IOC general manager for Bihar and Jharkhand B B Choudhary on Wednesday said the 5 kg Non-domestic non-exempt (NDNE) cylinders will help small scale industries and commercial customers who are currently using coal or kerosene. Each cylinder will cost Rs 290, he added.

He said that IOC is committed to serve customers in Bihar even at the remotest locations by expanding its network. It has set up 46 new retail outlest in the state including 28 Kisan Sevan Kendra.

IOC’s total turnover in Bihar was Rs 10,910 crore during last financial year. He further said the company had started supplying BS-III compliant diesel across Bihar from June ensuring introduction of green and environment friendly technology, while BS-III compliant petrol would be available from October, 2010 in the state.

The Indian Oil Corporation has also decided to set up 50 community kitchens covering all hospitals and major public places in the state by March next year.

Choudhary said the first two community kitchens by providing LPG kitchens have already been commissioned at Begusarai and Purnia Sadar Hospital.

These kitchens in villages are for common usage especially by BPL families and government hospitals, he said.

Stating that helping underprivileged people remained one of the main objectives of IOC, he said the company had taken various initiatives in Bihar and provided 111 dealerships under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak Yojana, a new business model introduced in 2009-10 with the objective of income generation to youth and empowerment of women.

He said that IOC is dedicated to meet the energy demands of the state and despite the global economic downturn, it has ably aided to the momentum of resurging Bihar by recording considerable growth in the sale of majority of the petroleum products.

The IOC has contributed Rs 1,012 crore to the state exchequer by way of payment of tax during the financial year 2009-10.
