Marriage At Gunpoint: From Real Life To Reel Life Patna,(BiharTimes): After Peepli Live comes another brilliant film, Antardwand, winner of National Film Award. To be released on August 27 Antardwand is based on a true story of the abduction of a groom, who happens to be Director Sushil Rajpal’s closest friend. He still suffers from the psychological scars of being abducted and forcibly married to someone, he did not intent to.
Though his friend later escaped and presently lives in a city, the case is in court, as he is still legally married. Director Sushil Rajpal could empathize with his friend, but yet he also understands the psychological trauma, the bride must have been facing, since she too is married and yet not ‘married’ and ‘deserted’ to her fate. Rajpal felt it was his moral duty and sacrificed his entire savings to bring this issue before urban India, which had closed its eyes to rural reality and the twin social evils of what he said ‘Groom Kidnapping’ and related issue of ‘Dowry’. “It is surprising still, because Groom Kidnapping has got a social sanction amongst the upper caste, in the northern states, especially Bihar, where potential bridegrooms who have done their professional courses are targeted because the bride family can’t afford the high dowry rates. It’s a society where human beings are ‘traded’ as animals,” Rajpal told BiharTimes.
