MCI threat to derecognise SKMCH Patna,(BiharTimes): Muzaffarpur-based Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), a premier medical institution, is on the verge of being derecognised by the Medical Council of India(MCI). The main problem is acute shortage of teachers. This has hit the functioning of hospital badly as well as affected the teaching. Students have become discontented and they are forced to take the examinations without the syllabus being completed. The state government has turned a deaf ear to the pleas of the hospital authorities for filling up the vacancies of doctors. There are only 50 doctors working in SKMCH against the sanctioned strength of 104. An MCI inspecting team has refused to allow an increase of MBBS seats from 50 to 100 as sought by the state government sometimes back. According to SKMCH principal Dr D K Prasad teaching activities have been hit hard. There are no senior resident doctors in the orthopaedic, medicine, surgery and ENT departments. The gynaecology and paediatric departments are being run by junior doctors. Anatomy, physiology and general medicine departments have also been hit.
