RJD leaders taken aback by Akhlaque’s outburst

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Rashtriya Janata Dal Bihar president Ramchandra Purvey and party general secretary, Ram Kripal Yadav, MP, on Wednesday denounced the newly-inducted party leader Akhlaque Ahmed, for daring to demand the resignation of Lalu Yadav.

Talking to the mediapersons the two leaders alleged that Akhlaque, who joined the party just before the Assembly election, is uttering these words because he was denied the ticket in the election.

Earlier in the day while speaking on the second day of the two-day meet of the party to review the poll debacle Akhlaque held Lalu Yadav’s leadership responsible for the defeat of RJD-LJP alliance in the state. He said that Lalu has lost moral ground to stay in the office.

Later talking to media outside Rabri Devi’s residence, where the meeting was taking place, he said the party suffered because Lalu continued in the office. There was no review by the party about the outcome of results during the 2005 Assembly elections and no step was taken to strengthen RJD’s organizational structure.

Akhlaque accused Lalu of being surrounded by `yes men' and sycophants who kept on presenting rosy pictures while the fact was otherwise. He also questioned the party’s decision to contest by-polls for Banka Lok Sabha seat.

However, his statement caused upsurge in the party and many of those present there disagreed with his remarks. Both Purve and Ram Kripal alleged that Akhlaque could not get ticket because of several reasons, most important being the court verdict against him in Gopalganj DM murder case. They said that it was the same Akhlaque, who conspired against Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur, which led to the fall of latter’s government. He has been hand-in-glove with those from where he had come, they alleged.

Purve, however, said the party would again meet on January 24 on the birth anniversary of former chief minister Karpoori Thakur, which would also be attended by booth-level workers to ascertain the reason behind RJD’s defeat in the Assembly election.
