First monsoon rain throws life out of gear in Patna, other places

Patna,(BiharTimes): The first monsoon rain this year on Monday threw life in Patna and other parts of the state out of gear with complaints of waterlogging and unprecedented power cut pouring in from everywhere. For example, a large part of Gaya had electricity for only two hours in the last 36 hours––between Monday evening and Wednesday morning.

People were so much agitatied in Patna that they took to streets at many places on Monday itself. They protested against the acute power-cut and non-supply of water for hours.

Residents of Abdul Bari Path blocked the roads for hours on Monday. On the same day movements of trains and roads on Patna-Gaya section came to halt for several hours as hundreds of residents of Punpun––men, women and children––squatted on rail track and disconnected hose-pipes of different express and passenger trains. The were protesting against water and power crisis in the area. They also blocked NH-83 and disrupted vehicular traffic for more than seven hours.
Water entered into hundreds of houses after a few hours of rains. Rajendr Nagar, Pataliputra Colony, Kankarbagh were the worst affected colonies.

Naya Tola, Langar Toli, Ramna Road, Saidpur Road, Mussalahpur Haat, Sabzibagh etc remain water-logged even till Wednesday.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday reviewed the situation in the waterlogged areas of the city. The review meeting found that there was no power supply at six to seven sump houses in the city for upto eight hours. Besides, the offficals of the Kadam Kuan sump house did not buy diesel for pumps despite being given money for it.
