Dental College students fate hang in balance

Patna,(BiharTimes): Thanks to the lackadaisical approach of the state government the Patna Dental College and Hospital, Bihar’s only Government-run dental institute, has been unable to get permission of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to take admissions for the academic session 2010-11. The permission has not been given because of deficiency in infrastructure, which has resulted in the delay in the admission process in the institute.

Earlier, the Dental Council India had inspected the institute and found that there were acute shortage of the faculty strength. According to reports the Ministry has adopted the stern attitude following recommendations by the Dental Council of India. But the repeated warnings from the Centre have fallen on the deaf ears of the state government, which has not made any appointment.

During the inspection, there were two professors against the required strength of six, one reader against 11 and four lecturers against 30.

Dr N P Yadav, controller of examination, health department, said that though the last date for admission is September 30 yet there are many formalities to be done before that. Thus the future of many students remains uncertain.

Reports also said that the Ministry had raised objections to the deficiencies last year itself and allowed admisstion with the condition that it would meet the shortcomings before the admisstion session 2010-11.
