BJP to contest 105 seats: C P Thakur

Patna,(BiharTimes): BJP on Wednesday made it clear that it would be contesting 105 seats in the coming assembly election in Bihar. The figure is almost equal to the last time when it fought on 103 seats.

Talking to reporters the state BJP chief Dr C P Thakur said that the decision is final and denied that there is any pressure from the JD(U) to concede even a single seat it contested in 2005.

BJP had contested 103 of the 243 seats while it had entered into a friendly fight with the JD(U) in two assembly constituencies Belaganj and Chakai in 2005, leaving the rest of the seats to JD(U).

Dr Thakur acknowledged that negotiation was continuing on swapping of seats because of the delimitation of constituencies.

He said that winnability will be the basis for taking a decision on this issue and added that the exercise for thorough seat-wise analysis had begun and names of seats would be announced soon.

It needs to be mentioned that in the last Lok Sabha election the Janata Dal (United) forced the BJP to concede one parliamentary seat, that of Kishanganj, which it ultimately lost to the Congress candidate, Maulana Asrar ul Haque.

Till recently it was thought that the Janata Dal (United) would be contesting much more seats than it did in 2005. However, recent developments compelled the party to agree to the BJP demand.
