Sonia to address Congress rally in August

Patna,(BiharTimes): After remaining in oblivion for almost two decades the Congress is trying to get on its foot again in Bihar. A public rally, to be organized next month, at the historic Gandhi Maidan is the testimony to this fact.

According to party sources, its president Sonia Gandhi would address the rally, which would be held on any day between August 22 and 25.

Earlier, in October 2005, she had addressed a joint rally at Gandhi Maidan. Then, she had shared the dais with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

This will be the first show of strength of the party on the eve of assembly election, which has only 10 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. The Bihar Congress is trying its level best to make this rally a grand success.

Preparations have already begun and the party is hoping a good turn-out. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is also expected to address a series of public meetings in the state.

The party also plans to target Nitish on the issues of welfare of minorities and backward castes besides corruption. Thursday’s Patna high court order calling for the CBI inquiry has given the Congress enough ammunition to fire at the Nitish Kumar government.

After breaking ties with the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Lok Janshakti Party of Ram Vilas Paswan on the eve of the 2009 Lok Sabha election, the Congress has decided to go it alone in the assembly election this year.
