Salman exposes Nitish govt’s work for minorities

Patna,(BiharTimes): Union ministers foray into Bihar continue non-stop with Minority Affairs Minister, Salman Khurshid, on Sunday becoming the latest to visit the state capital. He dubbed the Nitish Kumar government as anti-minorities and said that it had failed to take advantage of Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP).

Talking to reporters he alleged that the Bihar government’s apathetic attitude towards implementing minority welfare schemes had caused a setback to the implementation of the minority welfare programmes in the state.

He said that the the UPA government at the Centre had implemented 90 per cent recommendations of the Sachar Committee and after implementing it in totality would consider the Justice Rangnath Mishra report.

Armed with data and figures he said that Rs 523.20 crore were allocated to Bihar for taking measures to improve the condition of the minorities, especially Muslims during the 11th Five Year Plan but more than 50 per cent of the funds allocated by the Centre for development of Minority Concentration Districts (MCDs) remained unutilsed. He also criticized the state government’s response towards the central government scholarship schemes for the minority students.

Salman Khurshid said that the Centre had so far released Rs 122.28 crore under MSDP but the Nitish government had submitted expenditure report of just Rs 23.49 crore as on June 30 which is just 19.21 per cent of the released amount.

His ministry is yet to receive utilisation certificate and proposals for release of second instalments for projects sanctioned under the MSDP.
The Union minister also accused the state government of not properly utilising the central fund for improving the Madarsas in the state, particularly in the seven minority dominated districts.
