28/07/2010 Baby Kumari to represent Bihar in Commonwealth Games
Patna,(BiharTimes): Baby Kumari, a Begusarai girl, on Tuesday won the silver medal in the 200 m breaststroke event of the Federation Cup Swimming Championships in New Delhi. With this win, Baby qualified for the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi from October 3 to 14. She clocked 3 minutes 20 seconds in the final.
Baby rewrote Bihar sports history and became first women swimmer to win a medal in the top tournament of the country. It was Ramadhar Jha, who won a silver medal in National Championships way back in 1975 and that too in the 200 m breaststroke. At present, Baby is training at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre in Gandhinagar as Bihar does not have an Olympic-size swimming pool.
