32 Biharis among 67 killed in Delhi building collapse

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Thirty-two of the 67 people who lost their lives in the collapse of five-storied building at Lalita Park in Lakshmi Nagar, East Delhi on Monday evening were from Bihar. Twenty-two of them were from Saharsa district alone.



Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who also visited the spot where the accident took place. said that the builder, would be given exemplary punishment. She and Congress president Sonia Gandhi also visited Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Hospital where most of the 130 injured were hospitalized.

The building reportedly came up illegally and another floor was being added to it. A case has been lodged against the builder Amrit Pal Singh, who along with his family is absconding.

Dikshit announced compensation of Rs two lakh to each of the victim and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Besides, Rs 50,000 would be given to the children of the victims who died in the tragedy.

Bihar government too announce giving Rs one lakh to each of the victims.

Prolong waterlogging is being attributed to the collapse of building. Delhi had incessant rain this monsoon. This led to the accumulation of water at many places.
