Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Member of Parliament Bashishtha Narayan Singh on Monday replaced Vijay Kumar Chaudhary as the new president of the Bihar unit of the Janata Dal (United).
The party’s national president Sharad Yadav appointed him following the resignation of Chaudhary. The latter quit his post as the Water Resources Department minister by chief minister Nitish Kumar last Friday.
Bashishtha (63) was among those leaders who in 1994 quit the then Janata Dal of Lalu Yadav and along with Nitish Kumar and others floated the Samata Party. Singh was also a minister in the Lalu Yadav cabinet.
Unlike Lallan Singh and Vijay Chaudhary––the latter’s predecessor–– Bashishtha Narayan Singh is a Rajput. Lallan and Vijay are Bhumiars.
