Bikers ride high in election-bound Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): After cars it is the turn of the sale of bikes to go up in the election-bound Bihar. The sale has gone up weeks before the Dhanteras, a day before Diwali, considered auspicious by Hindus.
Political leaders are buying bikes for their supporters, who are engaged in the election campaign and booth management to garner maximum possible votes for their respective parties.

Hero Honda, which has a 62 per cent share in Bihar’s two-wheeler market, has seen an unexpected spurt in sales. Others are also doing well.

“In September, 1,200 bikes were sold from our Patna showroom and 1,300 bikes in August,” a senior executive at Patliputra Automobiles in Patna was quoted in the Times of India.

He added that sales figure in September would have been much higher if there had been no constraints in supply due to the Commonwealth Games.

Ashutosh Verma, area manager (Bihar), Hero Honda Motors Limited, said “September 2010 has been one of the best months for Hero Honda in terms of sales. We have been done very good business for the past two months. We sold more than 15,000 bikes in August and 14,000 in September in the state.”
Apart from bikes the sales of swanky cars have picked up considerably in the last couple of months.
