Patna, Sep 27 (IANS) Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar Monday issued notification for the first of the six phases of the state asembly elections, an official said.
In the first phase due Oct 21, polls will be held in 47 of 243 assembly constituencies.
"The process for the six-phase assembly elections in Bihar got under way," an official in the additional chief electoral office here said.
The last date for filing nominations is Oct 4 and one can withdraw one's name until Oct 7. The filing of nomination papers by candidates began Monday itself.
Among the constituencies going to polls in the first phase are flood-prone Kosi and Mithila.
Bihar will elect a new 243-member assembly during the staggered polling that begins Oct 21 and ends Nov 20. The counting of votes is slated for Nov 24.
