Patna,(BiharTimes): A couple of weeks after BiharTimes raised the issue of spot purchase of electricity in Bihar the state government on Wednesday sanctioned a monthly
grant of Rs 90 crore to the Bihar State Electricity Board (BESB) for purchase of power from the NTPC in the financial year 2011-12.

According to the Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) Ravikant the decision to provide a monthly grant to the BSEB for electricity purchase from NTPC in 2011-12 was taken at a cabinet meeting presided by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday.
By the rate of Rs 90 crore per month the BSEB would altogether receive a grant of Rs 1,080 crore from the state government in this financial year under non-plan expenditure head.
The state has been facing unprecedented power and water shortage for the last couple of months. In many districts people have taken to streets as they are not getting even a couple of hours of power in a day.
Though the power plants of NTPC at Kahalgaon, Farakka and Talcher are repeatedly facing problem in summer season the state government’s thermal power plants at Kanti and Barauni are producing negligible power.
The irony is that no newspaper or TV channels drew the attention of the government towards the spot purchse before BiharTimes took the initiative.
