Bihar poll official appointed special observer for Bengal polls

Kolkata, April 29 (IANS) The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, Sudhir Kumar Mishra, has been appointed the special observer for the fourth phase of the West Bengal assembly elections to be held in four districts May 3, a senior election official said Friday.
"Sudhir Kumar Mishra has been appointed as special observer for monitoring the poll process in the fourth phase. He will arrive in the state on May 1," said state CEO Sunil Kumar Gupta.

During the fourth phase, polling will be held in 63 assembly constituencies spread across Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and parts of Burdwan districts.

"Mishra will reach East Midnapore May 1 to review poll preparedness and from there he will move to other districts," said Gupta.

The EC has already listed the people who are vulnerable to threats from miscreants and also the intimidators across the 63 constituencies.

"All arrangements have been made to protect the vulnerable people and to ensure free and fair elections," added Burman.
