CM speaks out against VCs’ appointment as ABVP takes to streets

.Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the chief minister Nitish Kumar endorsed the views of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Human Resources Development minister P K Shahi on the the appointments of the VCs and pro-VCs a large number of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Tuesday activists took to streets to protest against the action of Governor-cum-Chancellor, Devanand Konwar.

Commenting on the views expressed by the two ministers Nitish said, if a minister says something it should not be seen as different from the government’s stand. A minister is entitled to give a statement but the decision is that of the government. Whatever the minister had said and whatever was noted on the file was in his knowledge and he had put his seal of approval on it, the chief minister added.

It needs to be recalled that the HRD minister has, in a letter to the Chancellor of Universities of Bihar urged him to reconsider the appointments, which, he said, were null and void in the light of a recent judgment of the Patna high court. The court had last May quashed the appointment of VCs of Magadh and Veer Kuer Singh Universities on the ground that there was no consultation with the state government.

On Governor’s interview to the Hindustan Times in which he claimed that consultation was made with the chief minister in the two recent meetings between them, Nitish said that it was not appropriate for him to comment on a constitutional functionary.

Nitish said time and again, the judiciary has defined the meaning of consultation. Consultation always has a meaning.

Meanwhile, the activists of ABVP blocked road and rail services at several places in the state. A large number of its supporters even squatted before Shramjiwi Express in Nalanda district demanding the immediate removal of all the VCs and pro-VCs appointed by the Chancellor.

They also stalled trains on Darbhanga-Delhi route blocked Siwan-Chapra road. The ABVP activists also raised the issue of corruption in CWG and 2G Spectrum Scam and sought the resignation of Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit.
