CM opposes FDI in retail market

Patna,(BiharTimes): Notwithstanding Centre’s clear cut stand that the states are free to take their own decision on FDI chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday reiterated that states cannot be compelled to allow 51 percent FDI in retail market.

Talking to mediapersons after his return to Patna from Sewa Yatra to Arwal he said there is no logic in such a policy. The Centre had taken a decision and now the Centre should reconsider and withdraw it. The FDI policy would not benefit any section.

He rejected the Centre's plea that FDI would bring jobs and added that the decision has been taken ignoring the ground realities. He said his party, Janata Dal (United) is opposed to this move.

The chief minister said that the retail shops and vendors who invest a few hundreds and earn a little profit would be hit hard and they would not get any job.

Referring to small districts Nitish said that a ministerial committee exists for the creation of districts, subdivisions and blocks. Arwal is a small district having five blocks and 63 panchayats, whereas Kurhni block in Muzaffarpur alone has 39 panchayats. There is demand for inclusion of three more blocks in Arwal and the committee would take a decision on this demand, the chief minister added.
