Patna,(BiharTimes): The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has conferred A grade to Anugrah Narayan College, Patna, for quality and excellence in higher education. The college has regained A grade after a gap of 10 months.

It is the second college in Patna to get NAAC’s A grade, the other one being Patna Women’s College under Patna University.

Gaya College under Magadh University is the third institute is Bihar to be accredited with the prestigious A grade from NAAC.

Established in 1956, A N College is a constituent unit of Bodh Gaya based Magadh University. The NAAC accreditation will help it get funds from the University Grants Commission for developing its infrastructure and academic facilities. Besides, it gets national recognition. Several national and international agencies come forward to work with the college.

This is the second time that A N College has been accredited with the A grade. Its accreditation lapsed in January-February 2011 and it regained the recognition after a three-member team from UGC inspected the college for academic atmosphere and infrastructure between October 17 and 19.

According to the college principal Haridwar Singh the three-member team was impressed by the infrastructure and academic atmosphere. It was headed by A N Roy, Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Gulshan Rai Kataria, teacher, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Davis George, teacher, St Aloysis College (Autonomous), Jabalpur.

The College offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses and research facilities in 23 departments besides it has nine vocational courses.

Apart from Patna Women’s College, which is more or less an autonomous college, most of the college of PU, the seventh oldest University of the country, lack NAAC accreditation, whereas the other two colleges of the state which earned this distinction are from Magadh University.
