Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday that a group of ministers (GoMs) has been set up under the chairmanship of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi to examine the demands for creation of more districts, subdivisions and blocks in the state.

While intervening during Question Hour in the Council, he said that a final decision in this regard would be taken only after the submission of report by the panel.
He said that all aspects should be discussed threadbare before taking any final decision and there should not be any hurry on this issue.
Nitish told the Upper House that while he was undertaking Sewa Yatra such demands were made at various places. He held the past governments responsible for the haphazard creation of blocks, subdivisions and districts.
The chief minister said that there are subdivisions where there is not a single degree college. Now the state government has decided to open a degree college in each subdivisional headquarters.
He cited the example of Barh subdivision. It was notified as a district in 1990. In subsequent year, it was postponed. And finally, in 2000, the proposal was rejected, he added.
He stated that the case of Barh is very strong yet added that it would be decided in an integrated manner. He also said that there was no point creating district or sub-division without developing infrastructural facility.
Interestingly, Nitish was in the then Prime Minister V P Singh’s cabinet and close to the then chief minister Lalu Yadav when the decision to make Barh a district was made in 1990. He later represented Barh parliamentary constituency too.
Old timers recall that Barh could not become district following the reluctance of the people of Bakhtiarpur who do not wanted the latter to be included in it. They wanted Bakhtiarpur to be a part of Patna district.
