Ranchi, Dec 12 (IANS) Five people were arrested in Bihar Monday by the Jharkhand vigilance bureau for cheating on the pretext of forming a 'friendship club', an official said.
"Five youths have been arrested from Bihar's Bhagalpur district. They were cheating people in the name of a friendship club," M.V. Rao, inspector general of police in the Jharkhand vigilance bureau told reporters here. |
The arrested persons used to call people, pretending to be girls, in order to befriend them. When any person agreed to become a friend, they were asked to deposit a specified amount of money in the bank account of the accused. The accused cheated more than 20 people in this manner.
The cheating was exposed when some of the victims complained to the vigilance bureau. After probing, the bureau arrested five people after raiding their houses in Bhagalpur district.
"We were cheating people in the name of friendship club. We were talking to people pretending to be girls," one of the arrested persons told reporters.
