Patna,(BiharTimes): The twice-married Janata Dal (United) MP, Mangani Lal Mandal, on
Tuesday got a temporary relief from the Supreme Court.
|
The apex court bench presided over by Justice Altamas Kabir allowed him to attend Parliament without any voting rights till a final decision was taken on the setting aside of his election as an MP for concealing information about his first wife and her assets.
The court has posted the matter for hearing on January 27.
The Court said that Mandal, in the meantime, could attend the House and sign registers but would not be entitled to function as an MP or draw any remuneration.
It needs to be recalled that the Patna High Court had on November 25 declared Mandal’s election from the Jhanjharpur Parliamentary Constituency in 2009 void on an election petition by Bishnudeo Bhandari.
Bhandari had filed a caveat in the SC to ensure that relief was not granted to Mandal without hearing him.
In the affidavit filed along with his nomination papers, Mandal had disclosed his assets and liabilities and those of his second wife only.
