BJP, JD(U) to contest UP poll separately

Patna,(BiharTimes): Janata Dal (United) and BJP will contest UP Assembly election separately following the collapse of seat-sharing talks between them.
Reports from Delhi and Lucknow said that the JD (U) wanted around 50 seats in the House of 403, but the BJP refused to oblige as it felt that the demands were completely unrealistic. Privately BJP leaders said their ally might be strong in Bihar but in UP it is a marginal player that can hardly win even one seat on its own.

The BJP has always said that the National Democratic Alliance is the result of State-specific tie-ups and it is not an all-India alliance in which seats can be given to all partners. In the past, too, it had problems with the Shiv Sena, which too had demanded a token seat or two in UP.
