Patna,(BiharTimes): The rebel Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday asked the ministers in the Nitish Kumar government to explain their sources of assets.

Talking to mediapersons he said the ministers should try to come clean on their property and assets by explaining sources. He said that he would take the initiative in this regard by explaining the sources of his assets on February 2, that is Jagdeo Jayanti. It was on this day last year that Upendra formally re-joined the Janata Dal (United). He was later elected to Rajya Sabha on June 17, but turned rebel when the leadership refused to oblige him by giving ticket to his men.
He resigned from the post of general secretary and is now facing disciplinary action from his party for allegedly working against the party’s official candidates during Assembly polls.
He said that the declaration of the assets by the ministers on the direction of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is not enough as the public wanted to know the sources of their assets.
He said that the crusade against corruption is meaningless if the politicians, including ministers, failed to explain the sources of their wealth. He charged the party leadership of adopting different yardstick for seeking investigation into the assets of the ministers from the party quota and said that the ruling party should follow a consistent policy if it wanted the drive against the corruption to succeed.
He once again reiterated that he had already replied in writing to the show cause notice to the party’s national president Sharad Yadav and the state unit president Vashishth Narayan Singh and if need be he was ready to appear before the party leadership.
However, he once again refused to appear before the disciplinary committee in connection with a show cause notice served on him for anti-party activities and said such a committee had no power to sit on judgement in his case as he was a member of the national executive, besides being an MP. He made it clear that he was not going to quit the party.
