Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said that the state government is keeping a close watch on the skyrocketing prices of real estate and is taking necessary steps in this regard.
Addressing a function of the State Welfare Department in Patna on Saturday he said the state government had given a secretary-level officer the responsibility to examine whether the real estate price rise in Bihar is fake or under a design and whether the money has not come from here and there. |
The chief minister said that it is also being apprehended that huge money earned through corrupt means is being invested in purchase of plots, houses and flats.
He said that the real estate price in Patna is almost equal to that of Gurgaon near Delhi because many Non-Resident Biharis are now keen to buy land and houses in their home state and return to their roots.
The chief minister once again said that corruption would not be tolerated and the fight against this disease would continue till finish.
Interestingly, chief minister’s statement came a week after the Patna High Court observed that Patna Municipal Corporation is in the grip of land mafia.
Authorities blame the rising price of land in Patna to the encroachment of PMC land worth Rs 2,500 crore by land mafia. They are of the view that if all these land are recovered from the mafia and residential and commercial structures built the real estate price would crash down.
In the last five years the price of land and apartments in Patna have got doubled and tripled. Though on Saturday the chief minister may have expressed some concern over the spiraling rise in prices till recently the state government had repeatedly been claiming that this is a good sign and a pointer to the fact that the law and order situation is improving.
Many independent observers see the role of land mafia in weaving the myth of better law and order situation as by creating this image they have earned huge amount of money. The truth is that the law and order has sharply deteriorated, especially in the last few months.
comments..
It is quite interesting to notice that CM is solely interested in his own image and ordering an inquiry when the High Court and Media have forced him to take action. The Chief Minister is not unknown to the land-grabbers and land mafia in Patna, at the least. Makes one think that the land mafia is funding the corrupt police and administration. Several incidents of inaction on part of the administration has come into focus lately at Janata Darbar where men and women have clearly informed the CM of their plight. The CM orders his police to inquire, knowing well that the same officers are affiliated to the land mafia. Threats, illegal encroachments, squatting on private properties, kidnapping for ransom is the best way for the administration to make money. When real estate prices are soaring, so are the number of flats owned by top government officials. If the Chief Minister truly cares for his people then he must open his eyes and see what others are seeing in his administration.

Nitish knows very well no body from Delhi -Mumbai will come to Patna to purchase flats costlier than metroes. Its BDO, CO, Daroga, DSP, Supply inspectors, engineers, contractors and power brokers are major buyers. Govt can ask for immediate enquiry who are these buyers. No body can with his hard earn white money can go for buying such properties in Patna. Govt. should come out with names of all buyers of properties worth Rs.50 lacs. We fail to understand where is income tax deptt. Nitish ji you can do it very easily.

It is nice to read that the government is taking interest to check the abnormal price rise in real state. The government must act now and enforce good laws to control or curb the prices. The way apartment is being constructed all over Patna is a menace and it is being built without even having any car park, proper safety measures, playground etc. I have seen it myself in the area around Samanpura (Raja Bazar) which has literally become ghetto and full of apartment without any amenities. The same thing is going to happen in my village (Nohsa- Phulwari Sharif) where two developer has already signed for the apartment and I am sure they will also build it by bribing the authorities and bypassing all safety measures and amenities.
The government must check all the developers and their source of fund as it might be a result of investment through money laundering , graft etc. The way the real estate prices are skyrocketing is unbelievable. I have seen myself 1 katha of plot was being sold during 2003 in my village at 50,000 RS is now being sold for 10 Lac RS per katha. I don’t think it is going to stop until government does something to curb it and take strict measures.
