Patna, Feb 21 (IANS) The notification for a ten-phased election for 2.62 lakh panchayat posts in Bihar was issued Monday, officials said.
The polls will be held in April and May. "The first phase of panchayat polls would be held on April 20 and the tenth phase would be held on May 28," the officials said.
The state government had already announced that the panchayat elections would be held on a non-party basis.
The state election commission has decided to take all necessary measures to ensure peaceful panchayat polls.
The electorate comprises over five crore voters.
In 2006, Bihar became the first state in India to give 50 percent reservation to women in the panchayats.
