Patna,(BiharTimes): Notwithstanding all sorts of complaints and shortcomings the Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport of Patna has witnessed sharp rise in the number of passengers travelling from here. It handled 6,21,123 passengers between April 1 and December 31 last. The figure is 68,783 more than that of 2009-10 financial year, when it handled 5,52,440 passengers. |
Arrival of low-cost airlines is being attributed to the constant rise in number of passengers travelling by plane not only in Patna, but in the entire country. The only difference is that in Patna these airlines introduced there services a couple of years later than in other places.
Similarly, the airport had handled 7,448 flights in 2009-10 but the figure till December 31 of 2010-11 was 7,178. Half a dozen of the 14 flights the airport handles daily are low-cost airlines.
Experts do not see any big deal in such growth as with the passage of time such increase is quite natural. After all never in the past had the number of passengers travelling by air has declined.
What is ironical is that though the airport authority claim that more train passengers are preferring air travel yet the truth is that the number of people travelling by trains keep increasing too.
