Engineering organization to be set up for executing govt schemes

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government has planned to raise a separate engineering-wing under the state planning and development department for execution of schemes and the district magistrates would monitor and supervise the works.

This was announced by chief minister Nitish Kumar while addressing a meeting of district magistrates and divisional commissioners in Patna on Saturday. He said DMs do not need to waste time in preparing DPR, making estimate or signing bills. This would be done by separate engineering organization.

Nitish asked district magistrates to ensure people-oriented administration with focus on law and order, social and communal harmony, besides maintaining zero-tolerance on corruption.

He said the people’s mandate must be respected and the work done during the past five years would have to be carried forward relentlessly.

Principal Secretary (Cabinet) Afzal Amanullah, while briefing newspersons, said the chief minister told the district magistrates to play the role of representatives of the government. He also directed collectors to take preventive steps for ensuring free, fair and peaceful panchayt election and oversee the projects taken for the Local Area Development.

The DMs were also asked to plan in advance ways to counter flood and drought situations in the case of such calamities, Afzal Amanullah said.
