Patna,(BiharTimes): Brahmeshwar Singh, alias Mukhiyaji, the chief of the outlawed Ranvir Sena, the private army of affluent farmers of Bihar, was on Friday released on bail nine years after being in jail. He has 17 cases against him.
According to Jail Superintendent Surendra Kumar he was released from jail after a Judicial Magistrate of Jehanabad, Dipak Kumar allowed his prayer for bail on Thursday. |
Some of the cases filed against him related to the massacre of Dalits. He was arrested in 2002. He was earlier granted bail in 16 other cases and this was the last case.
After his arrest Ranvir Sena had not indulged in any big massacre of Dalits in Bihar, the most gruesome one was at Laxmanpur Bathe village in Jehanabad district on December 1, 1997. About 60 Dalit men, women and children were killed in that incident. Besides, Ranvir Sena carried out carnages in Shankarbigha, Naryanpur, Miyapur, Bithani Tola etc. The Maoists too hit back at several places. In one such incident in Senari village they slaughtered 34 Bhumihars on March 18, 1999.
