Lalu exhorts people to march to Patna on Oct 11

Patna,(BiharTimes): Back from rain-drenched Delhi after a long time RJD chief Lalu Yadav on Wednesday, in a way broke his long political silence––though he had spoken a couple of times in between––to announce that his party would undertake a Patna March on October 11, that is, on the birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan.

The March would be undertaken to press the Nitish government to recommend a CBI probe into a series of scams, including AC-DC bill scam, BIADA land allotment scam and excise scams––all running into thousands of crores.

Soon after landing at Patna airport he told party workers that Nitish Kumar had been fully exposed.
“It is not Lalu Yadav but the CAG report that has said that the Bihar government had failed to submit bills worth Rs 31,000 crore. It was on the basis of the CAG report that a Union minister, A Raja, had to go to Tihar jail,” he yelled.

Commenting on BIADA land scam he said relatives of Nitish Kumar’s ministerial colleagues and bureaucrats were allotted government land at a throwaway price at the breakneck speed.
He said it was ridiculous that Nitish chose to get the BIADA land scam investigated by the chief secretary.

The former Bihar Chief Minister and Union Railway Minister said that BIADA land was allotted on the basis of pehle aao, pehle pao (first come, first serve basis). Nitish has now made it pehle aao, pehle khao (first come, first eat basis), he said and added that it was on the first come, first serve basis that the nation witnessed a massive scam in 2G Spectrum allotment.

RJD chief declared that he would tour villages of Bihar to expose rampant corruption, loot and total chaos in the Nitish Kumar government and would urge people to converge to Patna for the October 11 March to compel the government to order a CBI probe.
Lalu’s return to Patna after a long time and his comments on such burning issues are being interpreted in various ways. There is no dearth of public opinion-makers who are of the view that his silence was a bit too long, even much longer than six months as eight months have passed since the November 2010 disastrous defeat of RJD-LJP combine.

There are two opinions on his silence. Firstly the shock defeat has literally silenced him and he had lost all the options and has been groping in dark. Secondly, it may be that he wanted to keep low profile because criticism of the state government at the drop of a hat would amount to counter-attack by the present ruling alliance, which would in the process raise the 15 years rule by husband and wife. This would give a new twist to the whole issue.

However, political observers are of the view that unearthing of scam not by any opposition party, but by a section of friendly-media to be followed by devastating CAG reports have seriously dented the image of Nitish Kumar himself.

Perhaps no opportunity was better for a politician like demoralized Lalu to jump alive, catch first flight and be in Patna to cash in on the situation. However, only time will tell how much he succeeds
