Patna,(BiharTimes): A three-day Pataliputra Horticulture Sangam 2011 was concluded at Pataliputra Cooperative Community Hall on Saturday.
It was organised by the National Horticulture Board, Ministry of Agriculture. The Silver Jubilee of the Board was celebrated in 2009.
The Sangam was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister of Bihar Narendra Singh on Thursday. Thousands of fruit-lovers, horticulture specialists, farmers, growers and people from different walks of life attended it.
Various summer horticulthre crops, in particular variety of mangoes and litchis were displayed in the Sangam. This included Zardalu mango, Shahi litchi and makhana of Bihar.
Besides, organic potato, big size G-9 banana of Tamil Nadu, amla juice, green almond, aloevera juice etc were exhibited in the Sangam. Technique to handle modern machines and equipment, drip irrigation, sprinkler etc were displayed at the occasion. Method to increase production of banana and other fruits were also displayed.
There were in all 25 stalls. Customers bought or tasted various variety of manoges like Alfonso, Kesar, Mallika, Amrapali, Himsagar, Zardalu, Maldah etc. The demand was so great that by evening all fruits were sold out.
On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee the Board had decided to organize about half a dozen such programmes at the state and national level throughout the country. This was done for the all-round development of the horticulture crop in the country.
One such Sangam was organized at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi between May 27 and 30, 2011.
Mangoes and lithcis from Bihar and West Bengal were exhibited in the Delhi Sangam too.
