Patna,(BiharTimes): Unlike in Class-X exam, girls did better than boys in the Bihar School Examination Board Class-XII (Arts).
In all 88.15 percent passed IA exam while the percentage of those who passed Vocational Courses stand at 93.79. |
Incidentally, the top 11 positions have gone to girls. What is more, in the first 44 position only four boys figured. They grabbed 12th, 14th, 18th and 39th positions. Thus, 40 of the top 44 positions were occuped by girls.
Pranita Sareen of Sur Tulsi College, Katihar, topped the exam. She got 425 marks out of 500, that is, 85 per cent. Khushbu Kumari and Naveda Khatoon of Samastipur and Seohar districts respectively secured second and third positions. They got 421 and 417 marks
respectively. A total of 89.70 per cent girls passed the IA exam. The percentage of boys stand at 86.02.
In all 3,16,738 students out of 3,59,287 who appeare passed the exam. Out of this 31.12 per cent passed in first division, 50.87 in second division and 5.81 per cent in third division.
Surprisingly the girls of Class-XII did much better than that of Class-X where they performed much poorly than boys. This notwithstanding the fact that the bicycle distribution scheme for them was introduced three years back.
Academics attribute this poor performance in Class-X to the distribution of bicycle. They said that once the news of distribution of cycles spread girls studying at home or even in Class-VIII jumped a class and took admission in school to get bicycle. As they had weak foundation they performed poorly in Class-X.
In case of Class-XII the girls were not the beneficiary as students reached this staged at the natural pace. No weak students took admissionall out of sudden just to get bicycle.
