Patna,(BiharTimes): Back home in Bihar’s Darbhanga district the family-members of Swami Nigamananda, who died on Monday after a 114-day fast, squarely put all the blames on the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled-Uttarakhand government and suspect foul play behind his death. They also said that his guru forced him to undertake fast-unto-death. The latter, however, denied any such allegations stating that people undertake fast on their own and nobody is compelled to do so. |
The Swami slipped into coma and died in the same hospital where Baba Ramdev was getting VVIP treatment under the glare of television channels. Yet no mediaperson, nor the BJP government paid any attention to him till he breathed his last.
He undertook this extreme step for saving the Ganga River and checking illegal mining on its banks. However, the district magistrate of Haridwar went on record to state that the mining in the Ganga basin in not illegal.
According to Rekha Jha, the late Swamy’s aunt (Chachi) his treatment was neglected by the state government. She said the family had specific information that some vested interest in the hospital, where he was admitted, poisoned him. Following this, he slipped into coma. He never regained consciousness. Rekha is a school teacher in Darbhanga.
According to reports he had begun his fast on February 19 and was in coma since May 2. He was receiving treatment at Jolly Grant Himalayan Institute Hospital, Dehradun not far away from Baba Ramdev. Nigamananda’s autopsy report said he died due to septicaemia and degenerative brain disorder.
Grandfather Pandit Surya Narain Jha, a retired school teacher, said the government should probe his death as he was fighting a lone battle to save the Ganga, but neither the government nor the media showed any concern. He died a martyr for a much greater cause, he added.
Pandit Jha lives in Ladari village in Keoti block of Darbhanga district, about 150 km from Patna. Thirty-six years ago Nigamananda was born in this very village and spent his childhood there. The news of his death sent shock waves throughout the village. No one cooked food on Tuesday night to show solidarity for grief-stricken family.
He is still known to villagers as Swarupam Kumar Girish. He changed his name after he took sanyas. In October 1995 when he was 17, he left home. A letter was found in his room saying that he had left in search of peace and truth.
According to family Nigamananda went to Holy Cross School and passed Class-X from Sarvodya School. Like a large number of boys of his age he went to New Delhi to take admission in Class-XII in Greenview School.
But after doing Plus-XII his mind began to change and he became a sanyasi. Nigamananda’s father Prakash Chandra Jha is an engineer who is in government service.
What is strange is the stand of the BJP government of Uttarakhand. The party always champions the cause of sants and swamis, but in his case nobody cared.
His death is a slap in the face of the media, which completely blacked out the news of his fast––perhaps longest in country’s history––for about three months. It is clear that the media pursue only those case where money power plays a big role and where there is enough scope for politicization.
At the same time his fast-unto-death exposed Baba Ramdev’s yoga claim. If this Swami can survive for about 68 days before going into coma why the Yoga-guru virtually collapsed within a week and in nine days he had to break his fast. What about the miracle of his yoga?

Let us set the record straight. Congress government of Uttrakhand had issued licence for quaries 12 of them in all. BJP government on demand of seer and other organization had cancelled the licence and banend quarries. One of licencee went to court and got the ban revoked. Swamiji was fastign agaisnt this court decision. Where is BJP govt guilty in this. Swamiji was placed in five star hospital and was being provided drips. Already some foul play by those organizaing the fast is being suspected since parents of Swamiji were never allowed to meet him.

In our civil society people with mischievous intention have always made selfless people scapegoat for the sake of their own benefits and it is also unfortunate that media have also been captivated by such elements who always shows biasness and prejudice whenever some take steps for noble cause. Death of Nigamanand is in fact sign of decay of humanity where person is let die only because he thinks about the welfare of humanity. It also shows face of our cruel society where a person who abondons worldly life in order to make world to live, is devoid to live.

It is really shocking that this selfless soul perished uncared for by the self proclaimed flag bearers of this brutalized Indian society. The corporate media and media created so called leaders of civil society hardly care for the selfless zeal of unsung heroes like nigamanand.
My heart bleeds for such noble souls.
