Patna,(BiharTimes): While in rest of the country the seats in colleges imparting technical, vocational, professional or general courses are increasing here in Bihar the universities have been asked by the Human Resources Development department to cut the in-take of students in graduation courses. |
Take the example of Patna University, considered as the best in the state.
Patna College is going to take admission on 400 seats, 200 less than the number of admissions last year. In the same manner, the number of seats in Patna Science College has come down from 450 to 300 seats. This is bound to increase the cut off lists.
Both Patna College and Patna Science College are considered to be one of best in Bihar in Arts and Science respectively. The reduction in seats will make the admission process more competitive for the aspirants.
The argument is that since more and more students are going for vocational courses the number of seats in the general courses should be reduced. But a visit to the campus of any of these colleges would suggest something else.
Resentment is palpable among a large number of students. More and more students are being forced to take admission in Distant Education Courses from Patna University, IGNOU, Nalanda Open University etc. How come than the government say that the number of students taking admission in graudation courses are declining.
The truth, according to university sources, is that the state government is unable to fill thousands of posts of lecturers and professors all over the state. Even many important department in PU colleges are being run by just one teacher.
Interestingly, the instructions was issued by state human resource development department in 2010 but before the HRD circular could reach the varsity, admission process had begun in many colleges.
As none of the students from Bihar, either from CBSE or Bihar School Examination Board, could score 100 per cent marks there is no possibility of their getting admitted in premier colleges of Delhi, such as Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).
Here in Patna the Bihar government seems to be least bothered about their future.
