Patna,(BiharTimes): He served as SP of both Patna and East Singhbhum in the tumultuous years of early 1990s and earned his name as a good officer. However, in mid-1990s he resigned from IPS and joined Tata as one of its directors. |
Now he is trying to make his way into politics. Though considered close to Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Yadav and Tata bigwigs Dr Ajay Kumar is the candidate of Babulal Marandi’s outfit, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat. What comes as surprise is that the RJD is now supporting Congress candidate Banna Gupta and not Dr Kumar.
The seat has been vacated by Arjun Munda after he became the Chief Minister. Incidentally both the alliance partner the BJP and JMM have put up their candidates for the by-election.
Dr Kumar is neither a tribal, nor a local. He comes all the way from Karnataka to make first Bihar and then Jharkhand his karambhoomi.
He has been making all out effort to woo potential voters, especially the young electorate, to shore up his prospect.
Actresses Neetu Chandra and Tanushree Datta as well as film director Praval Raman are campaign for him.
Chandra is also from Patna and when Dr Ajay Kumar was the City SP she was studying in Notre Dame Academy here. She is highlighting the contribution of Dr Ajay Kumar as the SP of Patna in early 1990s when he made great effort to improve the law and order situation in the state capital. He took special step to check the communal riots in Patna City in November 1990.
Similar was his performance as East Singhbhum SP. Jamshedpur falls under it.
Neetu is telling the voters that on the basis of his contribution as IPS she can say with authority that he deserves to be a member of Parliament.
She said that she was in Jamshedpur as a youth icon to promote doers in politics.
What is strange is that while Dr Ajay Kumar is fully exploiting his image as a good police officer in early 1990s in Patna and East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur) here in Bihar now people are fed with the stories that there was nothing like good law and order anywhere in the entire 1990s till 2005. They are now told that nobody would dare to come out after sunset in those days in Patna.
